This past weekend, I took a drive up to the Uinta Mountains to get away. It was pretty cold up there with a lot of snow still. I tried to go on a hike, but there was just too much snow and I wasn't wearing good hiking boots, just every day shoes! I ended up hiking a bit before I realized that my feet were going to be really cold and wet, so I went back to my car. On Sunday, I took my dad to Snowbird! We rode the tram to the top of the mountain; there was still quite a bit of snow up there! I saw a little chipmunk and watched it run around and eat a cracker. It was a lot of fun! I hope you're enjoying your summer break! I only get the weekend to do something because I'm in school Monday-Friday! Some days I'm in school from 8:00am until 4:30pm! It makes for a REALLY long day! Take care of yourself and your family! Be Safe!

To my old class, and to my new class--I hope you're enjoying your summer break so far! Please leave me a comment of your summer plans or message me on dojo to let me know what you're up to! I don't really have many summer plans. I started taking college classes before school was even over; I have four college classes over the summer--YUCK!! I just found out a couple days ago that I was accepted into the masters program at the University of Utah, which means I'll be REALLY busy with school. I did escape today and spent several hours hiking with my sister and my dog, Chase. I'll try to update this every now and then, so please check back! Remember, comment or message me on dojo!
Guess what?! There are baby bald eagles again! There are two of them, E15 and E16. They hatched around April 5th, so they're a month old today and already pretty big. Here is the link to the website, I encourage you to check it out to see how much they've grown. Check it often to see what they're doing. https://dickpritchettrealestate.com/eaglecam360.html
Also, school isn't over yet. You need to be doing your work. I started working on grades today and I'm pretty sad that A LOT of you aren't doing your work daily. Please, PLEASE make sure you get it done daily because your grades will reflect that. Wow, it's been awhile since I've given an update. First thing, I miss all of you so much! I went into the school yesterday and started taking down stuff from the walls and it made me think of each and every one of you. I also started working on putting together a slideshow of pictures from throughout the year. I have close to 900 pictures!! We did a lot of fun stuff throughout the year--carved pumpkins, went to see a play, went to a basketball game, decorated gingerbread houses, played games, had morning meetings, danced, saw animals, learned about instruments, fun assemblies, we had so much fun, and learned so much! I wanted to post information about a flyover being done by Hill Air Force Base TOMORROW, Thursday, April 30th, around 1:10pm. The Air Force will be flying over in formation (a triangle shape) in F-35 fighter jets. They're doing this to show support and thank healthcare workers, first responders, and essential personnel who are working during the COVID-19 pandemic. I did find some other activities the other day, remember, this stuff is completely voluntary, which means you don't have to do it unlike your school work that you NEED to get done EVERY SINGLE DAY! Always ask your parents for persmission before doing these activities. You might need to have your parents look up how to make some of the stuff. I also wanted to give out information about additional resources on the Coronavirus that is available in other languages for those of you who are English Language Learners. Go to the website listed below (Coronavirus.utah.gov) and there's a language button near the top right corner. I hope that helps! FINALLY, the last bit of business, if you have library books at your house, it is very important that you return those to the school. We will be doing a final collection/distribution on May 18th. This is when you should bring back all of your school work (if you have packets), your chromebooks, library books, and anything else that belongs to the school. This is also when you'll be getting EVERYTHING from your desk, brag tags, things I found around the classroom, and any awards that you've earned. PLEASE make sure you keep mark this day on your calendar. I'd love to see every one of you and be able to give you your stuff.
Hello!
Happy Easter! I'm sorry I'm late. I hope you had a great weekend. My weekend was pretty unproductive. Friday afternoon I did a video call with my family and some friends while we dyed Easter eggs at our own houses since we're not allowed to be by each other due to the social distancing thing---that was pretty fun! I also got some gardneing and yardwork done! We are moving away from the Google Classroom because it got VERY overwhelming seeing ALL of the assignments since we started using the classroom. We will now be using a website that you can access at https://jamesemoss3rdgrade.weebly.com/ There is a video on the main page showing you how to navigate the website. I hope that this is a lot easier for you to use. Remember, we're still in school so you're expected to get the work done each day! If you have questions or problems, please let me know! Sorry that it has been awhile since I've updated this. I know Monday mornings we usually talk about what we did over the weekend, but I'm behind a day. I'll show you what I did in pictures. Please, please, PLEASE comment and let me know what YOU did over the weekend! I miss all of you so much! I was excited to see a few of my students during the parade yesterday! I'm looking forward to video calls this week so I can see the rest of you. Okay, here it goes, but in case pictures are confusing, I'll tell you what I did: I watched a concert on my computer of one of my favorite bands, Blue October, I started getting my garden ready, I went on a walk with Mrs. Kissell, Ms. Carter, Ms. Carter's dog, Eva, and Chase, I gave Chase a bone, Chase went to school with me to get some work done in the classroom before the parade, I participated in the parade, my friend, Misty, came over and sat on my deck from a safe social distance and we talked for awhile, AND the next day, Misty went to the store for me and bought a fire pit, firewood, and soil for my garden and dropped it off at my house.
Look at the news! The Governor of the State of Utah has said that each student has to repeat the current grade! I really hope I get to keep some of you in my class next year too! I'm kind of sad that you need to repeat the grade, but I'm SO excited that I'll get to have some students THREE years in a row! How awesome is that!!!! AND, just so you know, this is a joke because it's April Fools Day! HA HA! I tricked you!
A few of you have signed up for video calls, a couple of the calls are today! I'm so excited to see your faces! If you haven't signed up for calls yet, please do so! The signup sheet is in the Google Classroom, I put it under every day this week so it's easy to find. We want to check-in with students at least once a week to make sure they're doing okay, to see if they have any questions about the work, or if they need help with anything. This is a great way for us to visually check-in on each of you. If for whatever reason you can't or don't want to do a video call, I need you or your parents to call, e-mail, or message me on Dojo at least once a week so I know that things are still going well. If they work late or super early, they can always call and leave a voicemail saying, "Hello, Ms. Smith, I'm (your name)'s mom (or dad). We just wanted to check in to let you know everything is going great." They can leave questions/comments/concerns on my voicemail and I will try to address those concerns either on here, in the Google Classroom, Dojo, or a phone call back to your parents. My phone number and e-mail address are under "contact" in the top right corner of this screen and they're on the James E. Moss school website. PLEASE check in with me once a week!
Here are some activities, again, they're not required. These are ideas I've taken from friends, family, and other teachers.
Some tips: ALWAYS ask a parent if you can do an activity BEFORE starting the activity. If you're going outside, please keep your safety in mind and take an adult with you. Include all family members. Clean up after yourself! Have fun! Click on the picture to make it bigger so you can see what the activity is and all of the information. |
